FAQs for Locum Doctors
How long before doing locum work should I talk to Beat Medical?
Ideally at least one month before. However, we recommend getting in touch with us as soon as possible to talk through your individual circumstances.
What is the best way to find locum work in Australia?
There are many different ways to approach it, but for a high level of professional support we recommend you choose a single locum agency to build a strong working relationship with. Registering with every locum agency in Australia does not increase your chances of success!
What is the best way to get really high locum rates?
Although great money is an attraction to locum work, employers prefer well-qualified, hard working candidates to those who push rate negotiation ‘too far’. By developing a good relationship with your locum agency, and the facilities you work with, you will be a successful locum, and at the same time contribute positively to the health system.
What is the minimum and maximum length of time I can undertake locum work?
You can locum for anything from one day, to the rest of your career.
What restrictions are there on working in as a locum?
You must hold general registration in Australia, and have the current right to work (as a minimum).
What types of positions are available?
There are many positions in emergency, intensive care, anaesthetics, and general practice. The type of shifts vary from location to location, but there are usually a good range of options to meet your own goals.
Who are my potential employers?
We have contracts with public and private hospitals around Australia, occupational health organisations, and other medical providers.
