Aeromedical Evacuation Doctors - Honiara - The Solomon Islands

If you're interested in some overseas work, this is the perfect opportunity to spend a short amount of time away to see whether you like it.

This position is based in an Australian run facility in Honiara (Solomon Islands), supporting the Australian Federal Police and Australian Army. It is an excellent opportunity to take part in a vital overseas aid mission.

Our client is a leading provider of outsourced medical services in Australia, and the South Pacific, and is responsible for the healthcare facilities for the AFP and ADF in Honiara. Your safety is a paramount consideration, although the region is considered very safe. You will work shifts varying between day, afternoon, and night. There will be highly skilled nursing staff, and support staff on site, as well as a specialist presence for major cases.

You will be well taken care of, with all travel and accommodation needs met for the time you are there.

Locuming in The Solomon Islands

Solomon Islands is an archipelagic state situated in the south-west Pacific Ocean, approximately 2,000 kms to the north-east of Australia. Its land mass of 28,400 km² extends over nearly one thousand islands comprising nine main island groups. The capital, Honiara, is located on Guadalcanal, the largest island. The population of Solomon Islands, estimated to be over 550,000 in 2011, is predominantly Melanesian (about 95%) although there are also small Polynesian, Micronesian, Chinese and European communities. There are 63 distinct languages in the country, with numerous local dialects. English is the official language but Solomons Pijin is the lingua franca for the majority of people.

The Solomon Islands, lying within 12 degrees latitude of the equator and more than 1500km from the nearest continent, has a climate typical of many tropical areas, being characterised by high and rather uniform temperature and humidity and, in most areas, abundant rainfall in all months. Rainfall is the least uniform of these climatic elements, as topographical effects cause significant variations between locations.
