DevelopingEM is a not for profit conference organising agency specialising in providing a practical clinical approach to the delivery of emergency medicine education to senior emergency clinicians.
We hope to maintain an independence of direction and flexibility of action by remaining unaligned to established medical and pharmaceutical bodies.
Our short-term goal is to establish an innovative medical education experience within Australia. We aim to provide a clinically relevant educational experience aimed at the senior emergency physician and supported by evidenced-based information. The medical component will have a practical clinical thrust with short, sharp, polished presentations with a focus on “best practice” in EM. Critical to the venture will be the inclusion of a substantial nonmedical component. We hope the combination of elements will attract clinicians keen for a different experience.
If this process is successful we hope to export similar practical, evidence-based educational, and regionally specific Emergency Medicine conferences to the developing world. Any funds generated from conferences within Australia would be utilised to subsidise the attendance of local emergency medicine practitioners to the regional conferences as well as ongoing continuing education projects within that region. Beyond our educational goals, we also hope to grow a network of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care specialists with an interest to provide medical education, training, and health care to underserved regions of the developing world. Our first venture, DevelopingEM 2012 will hopefully pave the way for the establishment of a regular Australian and overseas conference system with these same ideals.
