In less than a month Nick, Ben and Joel will face the toughest physical challenge of their lives as they set off from Melbourne on a 900km run back to their hometown of Sydney.
The run, which will see them cover a marathon a day for twenty one days, is not only testament to their stamina and fitness – it is for a cause that is close to all of their hearts. Nick, Ben and Joel will run 900km in an attempt to raise $35,000 for the McGrath Foundation.
Beat Medical have jumped on board to support their cause and on Monday the trio stopped into say thanks for the support and catch up with the team.
As winter settles in, training conditions are getting harder, and they know that their success lies in the training and hard work that they put in now. Thanks to the iphone, run keeper and itunes, the men have been averaging 30km runs three to four times a week, with one big, 50km (or plus) distance at least once during this time.
"We have worked out the battery on our phones last five hours when we have music and run keeper on; it's a long time to be on the road and thinking to yourself so this has been a great tool in keeping me focused. When that runs out, I run out" says Joel.
"We are really grateful for the support offered by Beat Medical, and all those who have donated, it's definitely keeping us motivated"
Money aside, the reason behind the run is a personal and humble one. They take to the road to raise awareness of Breast Cancer, a disease that has personally affected all three of the men in different ways. This run in particular has been made even more special after one of the runners, Nick Hayes, recently lost his mother to this terrible disease. This will be their motivation to complete this run.
“The reason we are doing this is to raise $35,000, not for us, but for a foundation that provides essential nursing care for breast cancer suffers and their families”.
